Making the Switch To A Natural Home?

We spend most of our time at home, so it should promote our best health. That means having clean air and limiting the toxins that come into our systems.

Simple all-Natural Cleaners & Air Fresheners

The first and easiest way you can make your home healthier and more natural is by ditching all of your big brand name cleaners that have toxic chemicals in them. Hint- it's all of them. Switch them out for all-natural cleaners and air fresheners you make yourself with basic ingredients. Reuse your empty bottles, mix up a big batch for the month, and clean without fear. It's easy and saves time, money, your health and the planet's too.

What's my all-time favourite DIY natural cleaner that I use for almost everything, my favourite way to freshen and clean the air in my home, and my favourite thing to carry in my purse?

the simple guide to a natural home

All-Purpose Cleaner

This is the cleaner I use for daily sanitizing of counters, cleaning sinks and tubs,  window washing and scrubbing floors. It's strong, will cut grease because of the lemon oil and will disinfect with the lavender oil. I have a glass spray bottle with this cleaner under the kitchen sink and keep an extra mason jar of it on hand. Find a nice glass spray bottle (I like using glass instead of purchasing more plastic) at a discount or health store - it will likely have hair spray or some other crap in it - dump that and use the bottle. Or buy bottles here

  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 cup white vinegar
  • 3 tsp dish detergent (optional)
  • 10 drops lemon essential oil
  • 3 drops lavender essential oil

Find a few small or medium sized glass bottles with misters - find them in the beauty section in stores like Winners or a natural health store (use up what comes in them or empty them), or buy amber glass misting bottles here. Fill them up to have on hand in bathroom and bedrooms for a natural and calming way to freshen the air.

  • 3/4 cup water
  • 2 tbls rubbing alcohol or vodka
  • 5 drops lavender essential oil
  • 5 drops lemon essential oil
  • 5 drops rosemary essential oil (or other favourite essential oil)

Natural Room Spray

Natural Hand Sanitizer

Mix a big batch of natural hand sanitizer and store in a mason jar so you have it on hand to refill your smaller bottles. Just reuse the small purse bottles of the brand name sanitizer and fill with your new healthy mixture.

  • 1/4 cup aloe vera gel
  • 1/2 teaspoon glycerine
  • 1 Tablespoon of rubbing alcohol
  • 10 drops of tea tree oil
  • 10-20 drops other essential oil (I like orange, lavender and peppermint)
