These products are all hand-crafted from salvaged trees on my family's wood lot and other local wood lots in rural New Brunswick. A tremendous amount of trees blew down when Hurricane Arthur roared through last summer, and instead of the timber going to waste and impeding the growth of smaller trees underneath them, we (me, my Dad and extended family members) have been hauling them out and turning them into interesting pieces for home. I like to keep them as rustic and natural as possible, so I don't do too much except choose the ones with interesting shape, grain, colour and knots, and then sand them smooth.
We've been lucky enough to come across some amazing big, beautiful sugar maples that my Dad sliced into cookies for cake stands and serving trays. Some of the logs were also milled by a local retired friend on his property and used for serving and cutting boards.
Cedar is another of my faves, since it's lightweight and light in colour, so shows the grain really well. I use cedar for trivets and cake stands, and also stump stools and end tables that will be available in an upcoming collection.
Driftwood is another gorgeous reclaimed wood that I love to use in projects, and so some friends and I collected a whole bunch from their property along the mighty Saint John River near Fredericton to use as interesting vases and table centrepieces. The smoothness and shape of driftwood is endlessly delightful to look at and touch.
If you've been a follower of this blog you know that my redesigns are based around natural and sustainable materials, often reclaimed from nature. So I decided recently to take that passion further by making natural, simple and sustainable goodies for the home available to everyone affordable prices. Now, even if you live in an urban area without access to reclaimed wood, or if you do have access but have zero time or inclination to make something with it, you can bring a little organic beauty into your home.
Friends, I hope you enjoy these products for your own homes or to give to others who would appreciate a bit of modern rustic Canada in their spaces. I take custom orders, so if you have an idea for a particular piece, please get in touch. Watch for new collections being launched very soon. A little hint - there will be beautiful goods for your desk, your walls and your floors! See you soon.
